The corncrake is extremely rare in the UK and only found in crofting areas of Ireland and the Hebrides including Islay, it’s call gave it it’s Latin name Crex crex which is likened to the teeth of a comb being drawn rapidly across the edge of a matchbox twice.. once heard never forgotten.
